Much has changed in the last year in terms of how we run our "Newbies Munches" at Casa Kink, so it's time for an update on what to expect. We now host these as workshops as part of our Collectives on Thursday and typically refer to them as the Curious About Kink Collective.
Stepping into the world of kink for the first time can be both thrilling and nerve-wracking. If you're new, curious, or just exploring, attending one of our Curious About Kink sessions is the perfect, low-pressure way to meet others, ask questions, and get a feel for the scene in a welcoming environment. Here’s what you can expect at one of these workshops and how you can make the most of the experience.
1. A Relaxed, Social Atmosphere
Our newbies munches are all about meeting people in a relaxed, public setting. Whilst our Collectives are play events, we host the workshop in an area without play. Our Collectives are very laid back and there's no expectation to dress up or engage in any activities beyond mingling and chatting. Most people wear comfortable, casual clothing, so you can come just as you are.
2. Open Conversations and Friendly Faces
Expect a warm, friendly environment where people are genuinely interested in sharing, learning, and connecting. We specifically welcome folk at all stages of experience, from those just curious to seasoned kinksters. Hosts and more experienced members are there to answer questions, share insights, and help everyone feel comfortable. This is a safe place to ask questions that might feel intimidating elsewhere. It is important to realise that there is no one right way to do things and so talking to a variety of folk will give you broader perspectives.
3. Consent, Respect, and Openness
At Casa Kink, we prioritize creating a space grounded in consent and respect. We start the Curious About Kink Collective with a brief welcome from the hosts, highlighting Casa Collective values and encouraging everyone to make connections that feel safe and affirming. We’re all about celebrating curiosity while respecting personal boundaries. If someone asks you a question or offers advice, feel free to engage as much or as little as you’d like.
4. Learning and Resources
A Curious About Kink Collective is a great place to get pointers on navigating kink, from etiquette and terminology to events and practices. We focus the educational element on Consent, Negotiation and Etiquette in the space. We keep the discussions fairly fluid encouraging questions as we move through the agenda. The agenda focuses on consent, negotiation and etiquette in a kink space. You should come away with a solid grounding on consent in the kink scene.
We encourage people to bring their toys to show each other what they have and how to use it. The toy bags most typically belong to our more experienced kinksters, but please don't be shy bring yours along too if you have.
Bring your curiosity and questions. We will give a tour of our space so that if you attend an event you will feel a little familiar when you arrive. After the more structured part of the evening it's very social and normally includes opportunities to watch play or play yourself.
5. A Diverse, Inclusive Crowd
Casa Kink values inclusivity, and our newbies munches reflect that diversity. All bodies are welcome, regardless of colour, size, shape or other. Whether you’re single or in relationship/s, you'll meet people who understand and respect various relationship styles. We welcome folks of all orientations, gender identities, gender expression and experience levels.
6. Practical Tips for First-Time Attendees
Arrive with an Open Mind: You’ll meet people with a variety of interests and experiences. While some topics may be unfamiliar, you’re encouraged to listen, learn, and ask questions.
Know Your Boundaries: You’re welcome to share as much or as little about yourself as you’re comfortable. Newbies munches are a no-pressure environment, so don't feel obligated to engage in anything that doesn't feel right for you.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask: Whether it’s about an event, a kink concept, or just how to get involved, there’s no such thing as a “silly question” here.
