10 Years of Casa Kink
Ten years ago, in 2016, Casa Kink was just getting started. There was no Dungeon. No Downstairs. No big venue. No ten-year plan. There was an idea, a lot of enthusiasm, plenty to learn and a group of people who were willing to give it a try and to work hard to support it. And somehow, ten years later, here we are.
A few milestones along the way
2016 Casa Kink holds its first event.
2017 We hold our first fundraiser for CEXx, beginning what would become a long relationship with supporting and contributing to the wider kink community.
2020 We hold our first for profit event.
And then, not long afterwards, the world shut down. Like so many others, Casa Kink closed its doors during Covid. When we were finally able to start again, we had to figure out what Casa was going to look like in a very different world.
For a while, we tried different rented spaces and venues. Each one had its advantages, but we kept coming back to the same thought:
For roughly the same outgoing, we could have our own space.
A space we could build around the things that mattered to kink and kinksters. A space where we could decide what goes where and change it when a different idea comes around. Where we could create dedicated areas for different kinds of play and socialising. Where we could leave things set up. Where we could improve things over time instead of starting from scratch every time we held an event. Where other folk in the kink positive space could host their own events in a venue that understands their offering.
So we took the plunge.
2022 Downstairs opened. Our first permanent Casa space. where the greater collective has access to a kink space and toys to explore. It isn't huge, but it offers a clean, private space to play.
2023 The Dungeon opened. And suddenly Casa had room to become much more than a series of events.
Over the years, we've watched people arrive at Casa for all sorts of reasons.
because they were curious.
looking for their first experience of kink.
to learn.
because they already knew exactly what they wanted.
for the play.
for the education
for and with friends
And some simply came through the door one night and ended up becoming part of the Casa story.
We've seen people discover new interests, learn new skills, make friends, find partners, even get married, build confidence, challenge themselves, educate others and become the people welcoming the next generation of newcomers.
We've had workshops, talk shops, round tables, markets, art e
xhibitions, play parties, jams, social events, fundraisers, sleepovers, experiments, celebrations and quite a few ideas that probably sounded better at the time.
We've changed venues. We've changed our event offering. We've tried things that worked brilliantly and things that didn't. We've learned a lot. And we've kept going and kept learning and adjusting.
That's what I think is most worth celebrating about ten years of Casa Kink.
Not simply that we've been here for ten years, but everything that has happened along the way.
people who walked through the doors.
people who helped build the spaces, painting, making curtains, draping and decor for events
educators.
volunteers.
vendors
people who brought their friends.
people who stepped out of their comfort zone to try something new.
people who have woven their kink journey through Casa over the years.
people who have only just discovered us.
Because Casa Kink has never really been about a building. The building is just where it happens. The real Casa is the people who walk through the door and decide to be part of it.
And now, ten years after that first event, we'd like to celebrate with a proper Casa play party.
10 of the Best
On 26 September, we're celebrating ten years of Casa Kink with a night of kink, play, dressing up, exploring, socialising, mischief and plenty of surprises.
There'll be things to do if you want to play.
Things to do if you want to meet people.
Things to discover if you're feeling adventurous.
And plenty of space to simply enjoy being at Casa.
We'll also be welcoming some of the people who were there in those early years, recognising some of the people who have helped shape Casa along the way, and celebrating the fact that ten years later, there are still new people walking through the door for the very first time.
If you've been part of Casa for ten years, we'd love to celebrate with you.
If you've been coming for five years, two years, six months or two weeks, we'd love to celebrate with you too.
And if you've never been to Casa before, well...
What better night to discover us?
Ten years is a pretty big milestone.
So let's make the most of it.
Come celebrate the journey and the people.
Come celebrate Casa.
