What snacks to share should I bring to a party

In order to keep party costs under control and manage lower ticket prices for our events, we usually ask folk to bring snacks to share to an event. One of the most common questions for our events is "what snacks to share should I bring?"

Before heading to an event we recommend ensuring you have a light meal. Low blood sugar can quickly ruin your fun. Similarly when it comes to the snacks it is best to aim for items that maintain energy. Try to be varied in what you bring considering what you think will be enjoyed by others and what you like.

In terms of quantities, the best rule of thumb is to consider how much food you would eat if your offering was all you ate. That's about the amount of food you should bring. So if you are coming as a polycule of five people, please bring enough food that all five of you would have enough to snack on from it. Please resist the urge to over cater, we aim to avoid food waste. If we do have left over food we take this to Greenville Soup Kitchen in Fisantekraal.

Some of the most popular food offerings:

  • Cheese and biscuits or breads

  • Pates,

  • Finger size sandwiches (cut in quarters, finger size for all items is best)

  • Dips

  • Quiche

  • Pies

  • Samoosas

  • Frikkadel / meat balls

  • Veggies (crudité)

  • Nuts

  • Olives

  • Pretzels

  • Fruit

  • Chocolate

  • Cupcakes

  • Brownies

  • Scones

Please consider what might be less desirable in a sexy environment, e.g. fish, onions and garlic.

The one item we always have excess of at events is packets of chips, please only reach for these if you are grabbing something last minute or simply can't think of anything else. They are a great addition, but we never need more than a few packets. Be creative and let's see who will be in the running for the vest snack of the night!
